Anxiety disorders are reported to affect around 40 million Americans. These disorders are a group of mental illnesses that cause distress, which doesn’t allow the patient to carry on with his/her life in a normal manner.

Individuals who suffer from anxiety always have a fear, which can be a disabling state. However, with treatment, patients can manage these feelings and live a fulfilling life.

One characteristic of anxiety is represented by uncontrollable thoughts. And meditation can help with this issue because it can calm down an overactive mind. By regularly practicing meditation, patients realize that they are more than only their feelings and thoughts. They can detach themselves and be able to rest in their whole being.

The Concentration Meditation Against Anxiety

To release anxiety through meditation, do the following:

  • Find a quiet place in your house or in a place where you are going to practice;
  • Stay in a comfortable position and find a passive attitude of your mind, observing your thoughts, allowing them to go by;
  • Choose an object to concentrate on for twenty minutes. It can be a word, like “calm,” “peace,” “love,” a religious phrase, a short sound or thought. Gently and silently repeat the sound or phrase at a slow rhythm. Use the breathing pattern to help you concentrate your attention;
  • All you have to do is remain aware, stay in a comfortable position, concentrate on the sound and detach yourself from the distracting thoughts that may come into your mind for the next twenty minutes. 

What Is There To Learn From The Meditation For Anxiety?

A meditative practice for anxiety can teach you valuable lessons:

  • You will learn to concentrate on one thing at a time and to focus on the task at hand and to do it in a relaxed manner. Because you are decreasing the amount of thought for a short while, you will be able to think more clearly, in a more simple way about it;
  • The meditation will teach you to observe when your mind wanders from a task and how to direct your thoughts back to it. If you continue practicing, you will be able to observe quicker when your mind starts wandering outside;
  • Meditation represents a relaxation technique. It teaches you to stay in a comfortable position and breathe calmly and effortlessly;
  • The mind is quietened, the racing thoughts are slowed down, and you gain the ability to self-observe;
  • When you practice it regularly, you will feel more relaxed, producing pleasurable changes in your mind and body.
  • As a conclusion, if you want to overcome anxiety, beside or without the conventional treatments, the Concentration meditation is proven to decrease it and improve the general well-being.
